Right now, I’m living. Living with a computer that bit the dust over the weekend, darn it. I would have said something stronger but this is a family site. 😉
Yes, this old machine is close to ten years old. It’s served us well and we’ve gotten our money’s worth, but still, why oh why does technology have to give up the ghost? I mean, ever? Is it too much to ask that a computer never die?? I mean, really?
I loved this machine. Loved the speed, loved the screen resolution, loved the memory capacity. I loved it from its little motherboard to its raid stacks. From its DVD writable drive to its mic plug. I’ve lived with this machine for so many years I had to look up the date we bought it. Now its chugging away back in the office trying to recover files at the manufacturer’s settings so we can see how much stuff we’ll be able to recover. (Note to self: Have “Back up more!!” tattooed on forehead.)
In the meantime, while I’m learning to live without my computer, I’m reading! Just finished the very sexy Block Shot, which I loved, and then two by Becky Wade that were Christian books (yes, I like my reading eclectic 😉 ), True to You and Falling for You. Both made me laugh and Falling for You made me cry, too.
Speaking of crying, I’m going to go now and shed a few tears for my computer. I’ll be feeling low until the new one arrives next week. 😉 Hooray!

I’m sorry to read your withdrawal symptoms are causing so much distress. When will you be back on air and raring to go?
Jan, thanks for commenting! I should be back next week, sigh. Poor pitiful me, lol.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Becoming an author has dragged me, wailing and flailing, into the tech age–but so far I’ve only had to learn about software, not hardware. I hope your computer pulls a Lazarus and revives. Having to learn a new one is a bummer. They get to feel like comfortable old friends, don’t they? (Patting my trusty-so-far-laptop.)
Trust me, Sandra, treat your computer with love and respect! 😉
I think having to learn new technology while also trying to write and stay sane has been one of the harder things for me to do. I used to be able to keep up with technology changes, but in the past few years it’s gotten harder and harder.

Like you, I’m rather attached to my computer. My husband’s mentioned a few times that I ought to upgrade. Why? I like my computer. It serves my needs. Now, what I’d really like to upgrade is my saddle. Anyone got an extra $5000 to spare for a new saddle?
Holly, if I had an extra $%K sitting around that I didn’t know what to do with, I’d definitely send it your way! LOL!
I’m sorry the computer died, but at least you can catch up on your reading until you get back to writing. Good luck with the new computer!
I know, right? There’s always a silver lining if you look hard enough.

Mine died last year, and my new one is slightly better, but a few weeks ago it began freezing, so I took it to my IT guy, who discovered my youngest son had downloaded something which caused it to overheat. I had to be the ‘mean mom’ and issue the command that no one is to touch my laptop except me. After a week, however, I let him use it again….but he’s not to download anything without asking me first, ha ha!
I suspect next year, when he gets his school-issued laptop, he’ll stop bugging me.
We think overheating is what caused the trouble with ours, too. But when we tried to fix that, it went totally out. *sigh* Of course, after ten years I shouldn’t complain. It’s just never a good time, is it?
